Mommy had jury duty on Jan 3. After arriving at the court house and waiting for a few hours, we were all dismissed as the judge stated the case was not ready for a jury. I went by Sawyer's school to have lunch with him. Instead of eating with Sawyer, Sawyer spent his entire lunch break in the bathroom. I knew something wasn't right, so I took him home with me. When we arrived at home, he told me he was having "some red stuff" when he was using the bathroom. After his next time using the bathroom, I requested to see it. It was a lot of bright red blood. I immediately called the pediatrician's office. They told us to take him to Children's Mercy Emergency Room. He did not look sick, and skipped his way into the ER! They took a blood sample and found a few inflammatory markers in his blood were slightly elevated. We were sent home with supplies to obtain several stool samples and were told to schedule an appointment with the GI clinic at Children's Mercy. Mommy took the stool samples to Children's Mercy on her way to work the next day, and they called us back on Saturday morning to let us know Sawyer had shigella. We started him on a probiotic and he is all better now. He had an appointment with the GI doctor the following week, and will not have to do any additional follow up since shigella was the reason for his bloody diarrhea. What a start to the New Year! We were happy it wasn't anything worse and thankful for good insurance!
Sawyer thought it was cool to have his own TV while we were waiting in the ER!
He did NOT like the blood draw.
Brothers lounging!
