As Sawyer was almost out of the birth canal, his heart rate kept dropping. For a few minutes mom and dad were really worried, as mom's doctor was having the NICU and the pediatrictian on-call paged STAT! Sawyer's heart rate was fluctuating as the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice! After he was born, his heart rate was fine. Seconds after Sawyer was born, he was placed skin to skin with mom. It was amazing, as he was blue when he came out of the birth canal and pinked up within 20 seconds of laying on mom's chest.
