Friday night (December 9), we went to our local Parents As Teacher's Christmas event. Sawyer had the chance to see Santa, do an art project, play some games, and have story time. Sawyer has been VERY excited about Santa this year and points out every Santa he sees. When we ask him what he would like Santa to bring him, he usually says "a Spiderman woman and a toy for Sutton." He has also asked for "toys for me and Sutton." We thought for sure this would be the year he would walk right up and sit on Santa's lap. However, he started getting a little nervous as we waited in line. He did walk up to Santa (with a little prompting), but he was NOT going to sit on his lap. He did stand beside him so we could get a photo. I don't think Santa heard what he wanted, as he was talking very softly. Santa gave him a small, dog stuffed animal that has a Santa hat and a scarf on. Guess what Sawyer sleeps with every night -- the dog Santa gave him!

Ernie the Elf

There is a popular Christmas book, which we had never heard about until last year at Sam's office party when other parents were telling us about it. On Sunday, December 4, "Ernie the Elf" arrived at our house from the North Pole! At first, Sawyer seemed slightly afraid of him, but he quickly warmed up to him when he learned Ernie talks to Santa every night! Now, every morning he rushes into the living room to see "where Ernie is." Most nights when I pick him up from school, he will ask if "Ernie is still at our house." The basic idea is Santa sends an elf to keep an eye on you and every night he flies back to the North Pole to report to Santa if you've been naughty or nice that particular day. He stays with you during Christmas time and then will fly back to Santa & return again next year. Sawyer can't touch Ernie, or he loses his "magical power" so we have been placing him in areas that are out of his reach. Mommy & Daddy have to stay on their toes and remember to move Ernie to a new location every night! It has added even more fun to Christmas time at our house!
Mommy reading "The Elf on the Shelf" to Sawyer for the first time. Sawyer was really concerned about "what that little red guy in the window" was when he located the elf for the first time. Sawyer had to name our elf, and "Ernie" was the name he gave to him.
